Rice Flakes – Seven Fruits Payasam (Aval Sapthaphala Payasam)

This delicious dish is called Sapthaphala Payasam because 7 different fruits are used for its preparation. It’s entirely different from normal payasams and pradhamans, yet easy to prepare.

Ingredients for Rice Flakes – Seven Fruits Payasam (Aval Sapthaphala Payasam):

1. Jackfruit florets – 5

    Big sized Kerala banana – 1, after removing seeds and fibre

    Pineapple – ¼, cut into pieces

    Mangoes – 2, cut into pieces after removing skin

    Well-ripen pumpkin – ¼, cut into pieces

    Papaya – ¼, cut into pieces

    Guava – 2, cut into pieces after removing skin

2. Ghee – 50 gm

    Rice flour – 2 big spoons

3. Jaggery – 750 gms

4. Cardamom – 2, powdered

5. Coconut – 1

6. Rice flakes – 2 cups

    Ghee – 50 gm

7. Melted jaggery – 750 gm

8. Ghee – A little

9. Pumpkin seeds – 10, cleaned

    Jackfruit seeds – 5, chopped thin lengthwise

    Raisins – 1 small spoon

    Cashews – 25 gm

    Coconut pieces – 1 big spoon

10. Cardamom – 5, powdered

      Dry ginger powder – 1 small spoon

      Salt – A pinch

      Cumin powder – ¼ small spoon

How to prepare Rice Flakes – Seven Fruits Payasam (Aval Sapthaphala Payasam)?

1. Steam cook all fruits (listed as 1).

2. Heat ghee and add rice flour.

3. Mix it well and add melted jaggery.

4. Also add cooked fruits and cardamom powder, and sauté the contents.

5. Put off the flame and allow the mixture to cool a little bit.

6. Make small balls before the mixture completely cools off.

7. Extract 1 cup 1st milk, 1.5 cups 2nd milk and 2 cups 3rd milk from coconut adding sufficient water.

8. Boil third extract of coconut milk and add prepared fruit-jaggery balls.

9. Reduce the flame and cook for some time till water content is almost absorbed.

10. Crush rice flakes once using a mixer (never powder it).

11. Heat ghee and fry crushed rice flakes.

12. Add second extract of coconut milk to it and cook rice flakes.

13. When contents thicken, add first extract of coconut milk.

14. When payasam starts to boil, take it from flame.

15. Heat ghee in a pan and fry all ingredients listed as 9 separately.

16. Add all these ingredients to your Aval Sapthaphala Payasam and mix well.

17. Finally add ingredients no: 10, and stir the contents.
