Ingredients for Pulihara:
1. Dried red chillies – 4 nos.
Sesame seeds – 50 g
2. Raw rice – 250 g
3. Oil – 4 tbsp
4. Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
5. Urad dal – 2 tbsp
Bengal gram – 2 tbsp
Dried red chilli (cut) – 4 nos.
Green chilli (chopped) – 2 nos.
6. Tamarind – 50 g (soaked in water)
7. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Salt – As needed
8. Roasted peanuts – 2 tbsp
How to prepare Pulihara?
1. Dry roast the first ingredients without oil and powder them using a mixer.
2. Cook the rice and keep it aside.
3. Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, then add the fifth set of ingredients and sauté well.
4. When Bengal gram and urad dal turn light brown, add the tamarind extract.
5. Stir well and allow it to boil for 5–6 minutes.
6. When it thickens, add the cooked rice, the powdered mixture, salt, and turmeric powder, and mix well.
7. Take off the flame. Garnish with roasted peanuts and serve.
