Prashant Nair – Independent filmmaker of ‘Umrika’ fame
Prashant Nair is an independent filmmaker best known for his films – Delhi In A Day (2012) and Umrika (2015). Both these movies received rave reviews from critics. Umrika was premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015 and won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award. The movie also bagged IPRESCI Critic’s Prize at 2015 Cairo International Film Festival, HP Briding The Borders Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival 2016, and many other nominations and honours. In 2019 he directed his first TV series, Made in Heaven which was premiered on Amazon Video. The series starred well-known actors like Arjun Mathur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Shashank Arora etc.
Prashant Nair hails from Chandigarh. Both his parents are diplomats who worked in different countries. For the same reason his younger days were spent in different parts of the world. Initially he was a social media entrepreneur, who switched his career to entertainment in early 2010s. His first film, Delhi In A Day made only a very small budget was just a case of study this field. However it received rave reviews. After the release of Hindi film Umrika, he earned recognition in the industry. He is also a producer and screenwriter.
