Pinaki Misra – Lawyer turned politician and parliamentarian of 4 terms
Pinaki Misra is an Indian politician from Puri, Odisha associated with Biju Janata Dal. He is a lawyer turned politician. A prominent politician within the state, he has been elected to Lok Sabha four times – in 1996, 2009, 2014 and 2019. He currently represents Puri constituency in lower house of parliament. He defeated sitting MP and Union Minister Braja Kishore Tripathy in 1996 to join parliament for the first time as a Congress candidate. Misra has been holding Puri constituency since 2009 as a representative of Biju Janata Dal. In 2019 he defeated Dr Sambit Patra of BJP.
Pinaki Misra was born on 23 October 1959 in Puri, Odisha. He is a lawyer by profession and turned active in politics since 1990s. He was initially associated with Indian national Congress, and represented Lok Sabha as a member of Congress once in the 1990s, before he switched over to Biju Janata Dal. He won three general elections as a candidate of Biju Janata Dal.

1. Mishra was the richest Lok Sabha nominee in Odisha in 2014.
2. He is a Supreme Court lawyer, and has practised in courts across India. His wife is also an advocate.
3. After 1984 general elections, Indian National Congress won Puri constituency only once and interestingly by Pinaki Misra. Since 1998 the seat has been held by Biju Janata Dal only, first three terms by Braja Kishore Tripathy and next three terms by Misra. Interestingly as a Congress candidate, he defeated Braja Kishore Tripathy in 1996 general elections.
