Paripp - Cheera Sadam recipe

Ingredients for Paripp – Cheera Sadam (Dal-Spinach Rice):

1. Toor dal (Pigeon pea) – 1 cup 

    Raw rice or basmati rice – 1 cup 

2. Water – 4 cups 

   Cinnamon – 1 piece 

   Cardamom – 1 

   Salt – As needed 

3. Oil – As needed 

4. Mustard seeds – 1 small spoon 

5. Ginger garlic paste – 1 small spoon

   Tomato – 1, chopped 

   Green chillies – 2, chopped 

   Onion – 1, chopped 

6. Cumin powder – ½ small spoon 

    Chilli powder – 1 small spoon 

    Turmeric powder – ¼ small spoon 

  7. Chopped spinach / Moringa leaves – ¼ cup 

How to prepare Paripp – Cheera Sadam (Dal-Spinach Rice)?

1. Soak dal and rice for 30 minutes.

2. Add the soaked mixture and the second set of ingredients into a pressure cooker, and cook until 2–3 whistles. You need to cook rice and dal perfectly.

3. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, and sauté the fifth set of ingredients.

4. Add the sixth set of powders and sauté again.

5. Add chopped spinach or moringa leaves, stir well, cover, and allow it to cook in steam for 2 minutes.

6. Add the cooked rice-dal mixture, one cup of water, and salt.

7. Stir well and heat thoroughly before removing from the stove. Serve with any pickle or side dish of your choice.

Note: You can also use leafy vegetables like Palak or Methi instead of Moringa leaves to make this delicious dish.
