*Ballads of North Kerala (Malabar) tell the story of great warriors who fight wars or represent a group when fight is done to settle disputes. Some of them own kingdoms while some belong to high class families. Aromal Chekavar, Thacholi Chandu, Thacholi Othenan, Palattu Komappan & the female warrior Unniyarcha are among the greats of 16th century.

It is always fight between 2 people & *Kalari is the place where it’s conducted, witnessed by crowd. In many cases, 1 of the warriors losses his life & Kalaripayattu is the martial arts which they perform. They are called *Chekavars.

I think it’s Thacholi Othenan, who once, when lost weapon, created a sandstorm using soil & defeated his opponent. Correct me if I am wrong.
