Is Orange a significant colour?
When my daughter was three, if someone asks what her favourite colour is, she simply says, “Orange”! She had just started learning colours that time and whenever we purchase her something, she insisted on colour orange. Is orange a special colour for kids? Is it because it’s an attractive colour or something pleasant? But now, she chooses pink colour always – pink shoes, pink dress and strawberry ice cream. She is nine year old now.
Let us begin with oranges, peaches and carrots
Are they not attractive because of this ‘Orange’ colour element? Yes, of course they are. Orange is a combination of yellow and red. Fruits and vegetables of orange colour are rich in anti-oxidants and they beautify our skin and improve our eye health too.
Now let me tell you the significance of orange from ancient times. People worshipped sun as god from primitive age – the almighty and source of power of all living beings of earth. When dawn breaks in the early morning, it supplies energy too. So, the source of positive energy from morning is of course, orange colour of sun. Still now, our Sadhus (saints) prefer to wear orange colour cotton dress. So, orange is a part of our tradition and customs too; perhaps linked to our spirituality also. Many married women of our country prefer to use vibrant shades of orange saffron instead of red and maroon to mark the symbol of “married woman”.
Now let us deal with foreigners. In America and Europe this colour is widely accepted as sports uniform, it’s the case of Dutch too. Orange is the colour of royal family of Dutch too. Prisoners of America are given this bright colour as uniform so that they can be caught easily if they try to escape from prison.
Many people prefer to wear orange coloured stones like sun stone, fire opal, Caroline stone etc to overcome bad times and bad luck. It has the magical power to control emotions, many people believe so. So, what’s your opinion? Is orange a significant colour?
