Deepa Nair, also called Deepa Nayar is a former actress of Malayalam cinema, who shot to fame with her debut film, ‘Priyam’ released in 2000. She played female lead opposite Kunchacko Boban in the children-oriented film, inspired from Aamir Khan-Juhi Chawla blockbuster – Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke. She anchored a few TV shows before she forayed into films. Though the movie was a moderate success at the box office, she decided to quit acting and concentrate on to her studies.

Deepa was born in the state capital of Kerala on December 9, 1979. She is a trained classical dancer, and has been associated with cultural activities and competitions since childhood. Though she was interested in acting since childhood, her parents wanted her to complete studies first. She studied at NSS College, Neeramangara and completed Engineering. She started anchoring a few shows on Asianet in the late 1990s and was quite successful as an anchor.

When she wanted to join films, her family didn’t support her. However, cine artists like Vipin Mohan, Bhagya Raj, Sanal and Sab John convinced her father and that’s how Deepa Nair acted for the first time. There is a story circulating in social media. The rumour goes like this. She had a huge crush on Kunchacko Boban, and she’s his huge fan too. To fulfil her desires, Priyam movie was co-produced by her father, but on a condition that she will never appear in films again. She agreed to that condition and fulfilled that promise – never returned to films. As the surname of her father and film producer was the same, such confusion arose. But she later cleared that it’s only a rumour.

Deepa’s single big screen presence – Priyam was released in year 2000. She shared screen space with Kunchacko Boban and a bunch of child artists. Her character name was Annie. The movie fared well at box office and her innocent face was loved by audience. She declined film offers after Priyam
After Deepa Nair got noticed in Priyam, she started getting offers not only from Malayalam, but from Tamil as well. The following year she got the offer to play the female lead of ‘Sahayathrikaykku Snehapoorvam’, once again opposite Kunchakko Boban. But she turned down the offer and the role went to Kavya Madhavan. Filmmakers wrote her roles for movies – Chakram and Devadoothan.
After her PDC studies, she joined Srichithra College of Engineering, Pappanamcode, Thiruvananthapuram, and completed her Engineering studies. Then she took an IT job in Infosys. Deepa Nair later married a Singapore -based IT professional, Rajeev Nayar. Her marriage was conducted at Subramaniyam hall in the heart of city. Their marriage function was blessed with cine personalities, including Kunchacko Boban, who is her only co-star of films. A daughter – Shraddha, was born to them in 2005.
Deepa Nair is currently settled in Melbourne
Her favourite actress is Manju Warrier and she loves to do Manju’s strong roles like Kanmadam and Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu in future. Deepa Nair is now based in Melbourne, Australia and currently planning to start jewellery business. For that she has started an instagram page most recently.
