Ramachandra Naidu Galla – The founder of the Amara Raja Group of companies
Ramachandra Naidu Galla is an Indian industrialist, entrepreneur and philanthropist from Andhra Pradesh, best known as the founder of the Amara Raja Group of companies. Now his son, Galla Jayadev serves as the company CEO, after working under him for a few years. His son is a parliamentarian as well. His wife Aruna Kumari Galla is a 4-term MLA and former state minister of Andhra Pradesh, now associated with Telugu Desam Party. Galla has also established several charitable trusts like Krishna Devaraya Educational & Cultural Association, which aims at education for poor children.
Ramachandra Naidu Galla was born in Petamitta of Chitoor District in 1938. He is the son of freedom fighter and politician Paturi Rajagopala Naidu, known for his contributions towards peasant movement. He completed Electrical Engineering from JNTU Anantapur, followed by Master’s at IIT Roorkee. He took advanced studies in Michigan, US and worked as an Electrical Engineer for a few years before he returned to India in 1980s. He established Amara Raja Batteries in Chittoor, which grew up to a big company with an annual turnover of Rs. 6000 crore.

1. He started charitable trusts like Krishna Devaraya Educational & Cultural Association, Rajanna Trust and Mangal Trust etc.
2. His son Galla Jayadev is married to Telugu actor Krishna’s daughter Padmavathi Galla. Thus film actors like Mahesh babu, Ramesh babu, Manjula Ghattamaneni and other members of their filmy family are their close relatives.
3. He has been given honorary doctorates by Sri Venkateswara University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
