That’s the one reason why in today’s luxurious interiors, leather forms an important part. It is a bit expensive, yet many people prefer to buy it. Most important factors to note while purchasing leather are durability and quality. You should never compromise both over the price. In short, if you happen to see an ad which says ‘good quality leather at low price’, you need to be bit careful. If leather is of good quality, you definitely need to spend more.
Leather is available in different qualities in market, both original and duplicate. There are a few tricks to identify original leather. Here I suggest a few. Please take note of these important points while purchasing leather for your interior.
A few tricks to identify original leather
1. If you pour a little water on pure leather, slowly it is absorbed fully. If you pour water on duplicate leather, it never happens. Also leather develops a colour change.
2. Original leather is made using animal skin. After full processing, certain strips and lines still exist on a pure leather piece. If it is duplicate such lines and designs can be made artificially. If you watch it closely, you can identify it.
3. Duplicate leather has a smell similar to plastic. True leather holds a special and distinct smell.
4. Pure leather is very flexible and elastic. So you can easily fold or stretch it. Only a slight colour change will occur in this case. But the duplicate piece doesn’t hold this ‘special’ power. It is not easy to stretch or fold too, and it breaks easily.
5. If you scratch an original leather piece, the mark sustains for some time. But duplicate piece doesn’t cause wrinkles, folding, marks etc.
6. Leather can absorb moisture and give it back. So leather sofa set is cool and comfortable for use. Sofa settee made using other materials can never give you this comfort. If a sofa settee is maintained properly, it is four times durable than fabric sofa. Real leather never fades or loss its colour!
7. Leather material provides you better healthy condition. When you use artificial stuff it can cause allergy. Leather stuff rarely causes allergy.
