Pasi Sathya – Character artist of Tamil Cinema
Pasi Sathya is a noted character artist of Tamil cinema and television. She marked her screen debut with MGR starrer super hit Tamil film, Netru Indru Naalai in 1974. After playing lead actress Shobha’s friend in 1979 National award-winning film, Pasi, ‘Pasi’ tag got prefixed to her name permanently. She is active in entertainment industry since mid-1970s, and in a career spanning to 5 decades, she has acted in over 250 films and 2000 stage plays, apart from a few TV roles.
Pasi Sathya has been active in stage plays since school days.
Acting has always been Pasi Sathya’s passion. Since her school days in her hometown Madhurai, she participated in drama. Her father was a central government employee while her mother was a music teacher. Her journey with the world of drama started with the amateur troupe Pavalakodi drama. Later she moved to Chennai and continued appearing in stage plays. Because for her passion in acting, she left studies after grade 9.
Netru Indru Naalai marked her screen debut
After acting in many stage plays, she got her first film role through Netru Indru Naalai in 1974. Yet throughout 1970s she was not active in Tamil cinema till Pasi happened in 1979. Since then she has been active on big screen and also played a few memorable roles in television. She continued with her career as a stage actress too.
Chithi is one of her major small screen roles
She played Vijay Sarathy’s mother in the 1999 popular Tamil soap opera, Chithi. She also played memorable roles in Chellame, Annamalai, Kasalavu Nesam, Nimmathi Ungal Choice 2, Ilavarasi etc. Poove Unakkaga is her recent work in television.
She played character roles in Tamil movies like Veeran Veluthambi, Vellaiya Thevan, Patthathu Raani, Magalir Mattum, Nila, Sindhu Nathi Poo, Thirumoorthy, H2O, Engal Anna, Sukran, Kadhalil Vizhunthen, Poovellam Kettuppar, Anbe Sivam, Irugapatru, Maari 2, Kuttrame Thandanai etc.
Pasi Sathya – Some interesting and less-known facts
1. It was actress P. Bhanumathi Ramakrishna who gave her the name Pasi Sathya, because she loved Sathya’s performance.
2. She is a recipient of prestigious Kalaimamani award and many other honours.
3. Her husband is a retired government employee and the couple has two children.
