Thonthara Appam

Ingredients for Thonthara Appam:

1. Black gram – 1/3 cup

2. Raw rice – One cup

    Parboiled rice (Puzhukkalari) – 1/2 cup

3. Coconut scrapped – 1/2 cup

    Sugar – 1/4 cup

    Yeast – 1 small spoon

4. Salt – For taste

How to prepare Thonthara Appam?

1. Soak black gram, raw rice and parboiled rice separately in water for 6 hours each.

2. Make a fine paste of black gram.

3. Coarsely grind both the rice together along with ingredients 3.

4. Add ground black gram to it and mix together. This is the batter.

5. Allow it to ferment for 8-6 hours.

6. Add salt to the batter, and pour into small plates.

7. Steam cook them until it is done.
