Obeli N. Krishna is a noted filmmaker and screenwriter associated with Tamil cinema best known for the romantic triangle, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, starring Suriya, Bhumika Chawla and Jyothika. The thriller Nedunchaalai is his next known best work. His last work as a director was Pathu Thala (2023), starring Silambarasan. He has also done brief cameo roles in a few movies.
Krishna started his film journey as an assistant under Gautham Vasudev Menon
His real name is Krishnan K. T. Nagarajan. Professionally he is also known as Krishna. He was born in Komarapalayam, Tamil Nadu. Krishna started his film journey in the early 2000s as an assistant under Gautham Vasudev Menon. When Menon directed his first film Minnale (2001), Krishna worked as his assistant and also appeared in an uncredited role in the movie. When the director remake the same movie to Hindi the same year, Obeli N. Krishna worked as his assistant. He was the co-director for Gautham Vasudev Menon‘s cop drama Kaakha Kaakha and its Telugu remake, Gharshana.
Obeli N. Krishna made his directorial debut with the romantic film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal
Sillunu Oru Kaadha was released three days before the wedding of Suriya and Jyothika, and the couple were dating during the shooting of the film. Earlier he associated with them during the making of Kaakha Kaakha. The movie was loved by audience, and still now the director is remembered for this iconic romantic film. The movie also received several state and Filmfare Awards.
His second film, Yen Ippadi Mayakkinai, though completed its shooting, never got a theatre release. His second film released in theatre was Nedunchaalai in 2014, which received favourable reviews. It was a commercial success too.
Hippi – His single Telugu film
Obeli N. Krishna marked his Telugu debut with Hippi (2019) starring Kartikeya and Digangana Suryavanshi. But the movie went unnoticed. The gangster film, Pathu Thala (2023), marked his comeback to Tamil cinema, and the movie opened to mixed reviews. The movie was a box office hit. With this film, A. R. Rahman marked his second collaboration with the director after Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. Nee Singam Dhan song sung by Sid Sriram went viral.
The director is reportedly planning to mark his come back to Telugu cinema through his next Pan Indian film with Vijay Devarakonda playing the male lead.

1. He appeared as a college student in year 2000 movie, Manasu. It was his first screen appearance.
2. He played cameo role as a lorry driver in Minnale and Nedunchaalai. He also played Chief Minister Vaazhai Karunakaran in his film, Pathu Thala, or another words, he appears in movies where he is a part of.
3. Pathu Thala is the remake of 2017 Kannada hit film, Mufti.
