Tapioca is a staple dish of Malayalis and a wide variety of dishes are prepared from it. Kappa Ada is one such traditional dish, which can easily be prepared using smashed cooked-tapioca. You can have it with any side dish of your choice. Here, I have given a chutney, which you can easily prepare using fewer ingredients.

Kappa Ada

Ingredients for Kappa Ada (Tapioca Patties):

1. Rice flour – 2 heaped tablespoons

2. Cooked and mashed tapioca – 3 cups

3. Grated coconut – 1 cup

    Salt – As required

    Onion finely chopped – ¼ cup

    Green chilli finely chopped – 1 small spoon

    Ginger finely chopped – ½ small spoon

    Curry leaves – A few

How to prepare Kappa Ada (Tapioca Patties)?

1. Add rice flour to the mashed tapioca and mix well without forming lumps.

2. Add grated coconut and the sub-ingredients to tapioca-flour mix, and mix thoroughly.

3. Spread the mixture slightly thick.

4. Heat a pan, grease it lightly, and cook both sides till it turns golden.

Chutney preparation:

1.  Add ¼ cups of chopped red onion (shallots), four red chillies, a small piece of ginger, a gooseberry-sized tamarind, curry leaves, and salt to a mixer jar.

2. Grind them coarsely.

3. Mix in a little coconut oil to the shallot chutney and serve.
