Chowara Sreekrishna Temple, Ernakulam
Many married couples visit the Chowara Sreekrishna Temple in Ernakulam with prayers for the blessing of children. They also wish for healthy kids. The Krishna temple is primarily known for this reason. There is also a famous Ayyappa temple at a place called Chowara in Thiruvananthapuram district, situated atop a hill near the seashore. However, there is no connection between these two temples, belonging to two different districts – one in the southernmost region and the other in mid-Kerala.

Temple to seek blessings for children
The famous Chowara Sreekrishna Temple is located on the banks of the Periyar River in Srimoolanagaram Panchayat of Ernakulam district. According to traditional belief, it was this spiritual place where Lord Parashurama instructed the Tantris (priests) on the special rituals and customs of worship. Because of this divine association, devotees believe that prayers offered here bring special blessings and fulfilment.
The Chowara Sreekrishna Temple is situated near the Chowara Kovilakam (royal household). The present temple was constructed by this family, though legend says that the original shrine was built by Kulasekhara Perumal. The presiding deity, Lord Krishna, faces west. Lord Ganapathi – the sub-deity of the temple, is also worshipped here. Two poojas are performed daily. Archana, divasa pooja (daily worship) and abhishekam (ritual bath) are some of the common offerings of devotees. Also read: A brief note on Ottoor Sree Krishna Swamy Temple near Varkala

The annual temple festival is celebrated grandly for eight days during the Malayalam month of Makaram, concluding with the Aarattu (holy bath of the idol) on the day of Rohini star. The Ashtami Rohini day in the month of Chingam (Sree Krishna Jayanthi) is also celebrated here. Couples visit the temple and pray for progeny and for the good health of their children. If you are seeking the special blessing for kids, consult with temple staff about the specific pooja and its timing. As the temple is situated on the banks of Periyar, you can plan a visit combining the scenic location and the spiritual site. Also read: Stories Behind these Popular Songs of Guruvayurappan
