Tony Kakkar – Singer, Lyricist and Composer of ’Mile Ho Tum Hum Ko’ and ‘Coca Cola Tu’

Tony Kakkar is a Mumbai-based singer and composer associated with singles and covers. He has also done a few Bollywood songs as a playback singer. He is the elder brother of established female playback singer, Neha Kakkar. The duo owns many hit singles and cover versions to their credit. Mile Ho Tum (Reprise) is one such song which went viral over net. His eldest sibling, Sonu Kakkar is also a successful playback singer, best known for her debut song – Babuji Zaara Dheer Chalo from Dum. Tony Kakkar has sung “Ek Do Teen Chaar” song for thriller drama film, Ek Paheli Leela in 2015. The song featured Sunny Leone.

Tony Kakkar was born in Rishikesh. Later the family shifted to Delhi in the early 1990s. He started out singing bhajans with his sisters, Sonu Kakkar and Neha Kakkar. He marked his music career as a music composer for 2012 movie, Mr. Bhatti on Chutti where he composed a single. Saawan Aayi Hai for Creature 3D marked his singing debut in Bollywood. He penned its lyrics as well. He earned popularity through the Punjabi song, Akhiyan released in 2015, where he collaborated with Neha Kakkar and Bohemia.

It was followed by ’Mile Ho Tum Hum Ko’ for the movie Fever. He composed, penned lyrics and sang this song. Yet another version of the same song which he sang aside Neha Kakkar became an instant chartbuster. ‘Coca Cola Tu’ was yet another popular single of Tony, which he recreated for Lukka Chuppi. Neha rendered her voice with him for this version. ‘Car Mein Music Baja’, ‘’Dheeme Dheeme’, Mubarak Ho’ and ‘Lori Suna’ are other popular songs to his credit.

Tony Kakkar – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. After the family shifted to Delhi, it faced financial troubles. To help the family the three siblings started singing bhajans and performing at jagratas in and around Delhi.

2. For each performance the siblings used to get rupees 50 in the early 1990s.

3. The music talents of the kids were well supported by parents, which later helped them to become financially independent.

4. While at Mumbai he worked as a lyricist with composer Sandeep Chowta, and the artist inspired him a lot.

5. Initially he wanted to become a composer and later shifted to singing as well.

6. Mile Ho Tum Hum Ko was initially recorded in his voice. When its director Rajeev Jhaveri insisted to retain his voice, and this decision was welcomed by his sisters, he decided to pursue a career in singing along with composition. In fact his sisters were indeed thrilled with the idea of siblings performing together on stage.

7. He now dreams to compose the entire soundtrack and background score of a film. Till now he has composed only singles.

8. Three siblings have collaborated together for many singles.
