Amarjit Singh Kiyam – Manipur footballer
Amarjit Singh Kiyam is a professional footballer from the state of Manipur. He currently plays as a midfielder for Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League. He has also represented India in U17 and U15 teams playing 33 and 4 matches respectively. He served as the Indian team captain of 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in India, when India made first ever appearance in a FIFA world cup. He has been associated with sports club, AIFF Elite Academy.
Amarjit Singh Kiyam was born on January 6, 2001 in the rural village, Hokha Mamang Leykai of Manipur. He belongs to a family of footballers. He along with his cousin Jeakson Singh Thounaojam practised and played football at Chandigarh Football academy, and both of them have played for India. Jeakson also belongs to the same village, and both of them were introduced to the game by Amarjit’s father who served in Manipur police. Amarjit’s father had a stroke a couple of years back, and his mother has been selling dry fish to financially support the family. So Amarjit Singh had to face a lot of hardships to reach the phase where he is right now.
