A few Ayurveda tips with Ixora flowers, hibiscus and aloe vera
Ixora, hibiscus/shoe flower and aloe vera – they grow well in Kerala climate. Nowadays ixora and hibiscus have already started disappearing from courtyards. Yet we can’t deny the fact that they are high in medicinal values. Same is the case of aloe vera and its natural effects on hair, wounds etc. Through this column I shall provide a few common uses of ixora, aloe vera and hibiscus.
Ayurveda tips with Aloe Vera
1. Mix aloe vera juice with raw turmeric (pacha manjal in Malayalam) and apply on agnail three days continuously before you go to sleep.
2. For small burns, aloe vera juice is a quick remedy. You can also gently massage its tender stem on the affected areas to reduce the pain and avoid bubbles.
3. To reduce menstrual pain, chew the stem of aloe vera.
4. Stem of aloe vera is excellent for hair growth. Make a fine paste of aloe vera stem and apply on your scalp. You can do this once a week, and you can also use aloe vera stem while preparing hair oil. Add a few chopped stems to coconut oil and boil it well. Use regularly to get better results.
Ayurveda tips with hibiscus and ixora flowers
1. Dry ixora flowers and make a fine powder. Mix it with a little ghee and apply on kid’s body. They get better skin tone and colour.
2. Use ixora or hibiscus flowers to boil water and bath your kids. It can reduce their skin problems a lot.
3. Hibiscus leaves can be used as hair shampoo. Smash a few leaves and apply on your hair.
4. Hibiscus flowers can be used to prepare hair oil. Boil a few flower petals in coconut oil and use for hair.
5. Boil a few hibiscus flowers in coconut oil. Use it as body oil for kids to get rid of rashes and prickly heat during hot summer season.
Note: Use only countryside hibiscus and ixora for better results, not hybrid ones.
