Vinayak Sasikumar – Malayalam film lyricist with Aavesham, Romancham etc to his credit
Vinayak Sasikumar is a promising lyricist of Malayalam cinema, who owns countless hit songs to his credit. Made his debut as a lyricist through the movie Kutteem Kolum in 2013, in a career spanning over a decade, he penned lyrics for Guppy, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Iyobinte Pusthakam, Parava, Mayaanadhi, Ezra etc during the early phase of his career followed by June, Kumbalangi Nights, Athiran, Bheeshma Parvam, Malayankunju, Trance, Aavesham, Romancham, Marco, Bougainvillea, Rifle Club, Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys, Level Cross, Sookshmadarsini etc. He frequently associates with new-age film directors and is one of the most sought lyricists of present Mollywood.
Vinayak Sasikumar worked as a data scientist in Chennai before turning a lyricist
Vinayak Sasikumar hails from Thiruvananthapuram. He was born to S. Sasikumar and Asha Sasikumar on 13 June 1994. He started writing poems at the age of 12. Later, he moved to Chennai where he completed graduation from Loyola College and post-graduation from Madras School of Economics. After studies he worked for Ford Motors as a data scientist in Chennai, before he moved to Kochi to pursue a career in films.
His first break – Kutteem Kolum directed by Guinness Pakru.
Kutteem Kolum released in 2013 was his first work. He got noticed for the songs he penned for Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, and since then he has been regular in penning lyrics. Songs like “Doore Doore”, “Neelakasham” and “Thazhvaram” got noticed. It was followed by North 24 Kaatham, Iyobinte Pusthakam, Godha, The Great Father, Parava, Pullikkaran Staraa, Mayaanadhi, Sapthamashree Thaskaraha, 7th Day, Ezra, Maradona, B.Tech, Hey Jude etc. Uyirin Nadhiye and Kaattil from Mayaanadhi were popular. He penned lyrics for all leading stars belonging to present generation. His association with new-age film directors brought him success.
He rose to the main league of lyricists in 2019

2019, just before the pandemic was a good year for Vinayak Sasikumar. “Aaradhike”, “Njan Jackson Allada” from Ambili, “Pavizha Mazha” from Athiran and “Minni Minni” from June etc were huge chartbusters. He wrote 5 songs for June, of which the romantic single “Minni Minni” was highly praised. His songs from Kumbalangi Nights, Helen and Kettiyolaanu Ente Malagha also came out same year.
His career post pandemic is exciting
Drishyam 2, Nayattu, Kappela, Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, Trance, Bheeshma Parvam, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Malayankunju, 12th Man, Bro Daddy, Madhuram, Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, Nayattu, Kala, Drishyam 2, Kappela, Mepadiyan, Romancham, Manjummel Boys, Veyil, Keedam, Avesham, Priyan Ottathilanu, Vaasi, Kasargold, Kooman, Kaapa, Ottu, Ini Utharam, Enkilum Chandrike, Christy, Vellari Pattanam, Kannur Squad, Tholvi F.C. – The list is too long. He delivered hits after hits, and became a part of many successful films in the recent times. “Santhe Soumye” from Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, “Aadharanjali” from Romancham, “Parudeesa” and “Rathipushpam” from Bheeshma Parvam etc are some of his hit songs during 2021-2023.
In 2024, he penned 8 tracks for Fahadh starrer Aavesham, many of them went viral. Songs like “Illuminati” were listed among top searched and listened Indian songs of 2024. Its songs played a magnificent role in the success of this entertainment film. Manjummel Boys, Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, Marco, Pani, Adios Amigo, Nuna Kuzhi, Bougainvillea, Rifle Club, Level Cross, Vaazha – Biopic of a Billion Boys and Turbo are his other major hits of the year.

1. Just like year 2024 for Malayalam cinema, it was a good year for Vinayak as well, with songs like “Galatta”, “Illuminati”, “Sthuthi” etc received wide acceptance.
2. He wrote jocular lyrics for Romancham and Avesham, that too for the same team, composer Sushin Shyam and director Jithu Madhavan.
3. He wrote lyrics for some of the best works of Fahadh Fasil in recent times such as Athiran, Avesham, Kumbalangi Nights, Malayankunju, Trance, Bougainvillea and also for Haram and Iyobinte Pusthakam during his early phase. Many of them were foot tappers and big chartbusters. North 24 Kaatham was the first Fahadh movie for which he penned lyrics.
4. His song ‘Gabrielinte‘ from Guppy entered Kerala’s pop music as a major Christmas carol song in December 2016.
5. His song Thaniye from Guppy earned Sooraj Santhosh Kerala State Film Award for the Best male playback for the first time.
6. In 2019, he penned Tamil lyrics “Vellai Poove” for the short, ‘Hi Hello Kaadhal’ starring Sarjano Khalid and Gouri Kishan which was a hit. He also directed the musical.
7. He penned lyrics for all the three songs of Malayankunju, the movie which marked comeback of A. R. Rahman to Malayalam cinema after Yodha, 3 decades later.
8. In 2024, he penned 8 tracks for the blockbuster film Aavesham, many of them went viral.
9. He penned Malayalam lyrics for Dulquer Salman starrer, Sita Ramam.
10. Vinayak wrote the themes of central characters in the Amal Neerad film Iyobinte Pusthakam.
11. He won best Lyricist 2022 award at the 46th Kerala Film Critics Award 2023, multiple SIIMA and many more honours.
