Rava Ilayada


Ilayada is usually prepared using banana leaves. Flour is spread inside the banana leaf as a thin layer and then sealed well. Then it’s put into boiling water and cooked well. In rava ilayada, rava/sooji is used for making the batter to fill the banana leaf. Let me tell you its procedure. Rava is available in 2 forms – normal or roasted. Use normal rava for preparing ilayada. 

Ingredients for Rava Ilayada:

  1. Rava – ½ kg
  2. Scrapped coconut – 1
  3. Sugar – as required
  4. Ghee – a little

How to prepare Rava Ilayada?

  1. Add water to rava and allow it to soak for 15 minutes. Batter should be thick to be spread on the banana leaf.
  2. Mix coconut and sugar.
  3. Show the banana leaf to flame to make it soft and then apply a little ghee on it.
  4. Then spread rava batter on banana leaf to form a thin layer. Spread coconut-sugar mixture on its top.
  5. Then fold the banana leaf and steam cook it in idli maker or steamer for 15 minutes and serve.
