Prakriti Kakar – The sensuous voice behind “Katra Katra” and “Bheegh Loon”

Prakriti Kakar is a successful playback singer associated with Bollywood. Her twin sister Sukriti Kakar and elder sister Akriti Kakkar are also playback singers of Bollywood, and their names are often confused with two Bollywood playback singers with same surname – Neha Kakkar and Sonu Kakkar (siblings). Akriti Kakar, who is 9 years older to her twin sisters often play the role of a protective mother. “Katra Katra” from Alone and “Bheegh Loon” from Khamoshiyan are the most popular songs of Prakriti Kakar, both composed by Ankit Tiwari. Prakriti initially provided backing voice for several Bollywood songs, before she was offered the big break by Tiwari in 2015. The title track of Tutiya Dil composed by Gulraj Singh is her first song credited as a playback singer.

Prakriti Kakar was born in New Delhi in 1995. She belonged to a family with music background. Her paternal grandfather was from Peshawar, Pakistan. She got initial lessons from her mother, a music teacher from a school at Delhi. Following her elder sister’s footsteps, she along with her twin sister was determined to join playback singing. The family shifted to Mumbai in 2004 as her elder sister wanted to pursue a career in Bollywood. She completed her school studies at Mumbai. While at Delhi, she had already taken lessons in keyboard and western music, along with 7 years of learning in classical music.

In 2012, she sang her first Bollywood song for Tutiya Dil, followed by a couple of songs with her twin sister – “Goti Song” from Nasha and Title track of Boss. Ankit Tiwari spotted her singing in a fashion show. Apart from offering a position for female voice in his music concerts, he also gave her a couple of sensuous hit songs –“Katra Katra” from Alone and “Bheegh Loon” from Khamoshiyan both released in 2015. She rose to prominence after these two hits back to back. She has sung popular songs for Boss, Azhar, Mubarakan, Dil Juunglee, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, Stree etc.
