Zareen Khan – Bollywood actress best known for her bold avatar in ‘Hate Story 3’ and ‘Aksar 2’

Zareen Khan is a popular Bollywood actress, best known for glamorous roles and chartbuster item songs. She was launched to Bollywood by Salman Khan through Veer in 2010. Though the movie was a flop, over the years she established as a successful actress of Bollywood. Apart from Bollywood she has also appeared in Punjabi and Telugu language films. Erotic thriller – Hate Story 3 is her most popular role up-to-date. She played Ritesh Deshmukh’s girlfriend in commercial hit, Housefull 2, where she became a part of ensemble cast. Her special appearance in “Character Dheela” in Salman Khan starrer Ready was also popular.

Zareen Khan – From fat to slim

Zareen Khan hails from a Pathan family of Mumbai and was born in year 1987. She has ancestral roots in Afghanistan. She completed her studies in Mumbai, where she took intermediate from Rizvi College of Science, Mumbai. Her father left the family as he was not willing to take the responsibility of two daughters, Zareen and her sister. Zareen was forced to leave her studies because of liabilities, despite being a brilliant student. To financially support her family and earn pocket money, she initially worked at a call centre before moving to modelling.

She faced a lot of obesity problems as a teenager and weighed 100 kms. Initially she wanted to become a doctor, and she ignored her weight problems as she felt that good looks are not significant for a doctor. However she couldn’t pursue her dreams as a doctor because of her financial conditions, and later decided to become a model. So she shed 43 kilos through strict exercise regimes and proper diet. However when she got her first break to films, she gained 8 kilos to play 19th-century princess more convincingly. Yet she had to face criticism for overweight.

When she appeared aside Salman Khan in the chartbuster song “Character Dheela” she had fully transformed to a diva, reducing a few more pounds and appearing with well-toned body. She doesn’t believe in shortcuts to loss pounds, and for the same reason has rejected an 1-crore offer for endorsing a weight loss pill.

Housefull 2 was her second release, and the movie was a commercial hit. In 2014 she played lead role in less-known movie, DOA: Death of Amar, which was the official selection at 22nd San Francisco Global Movie Fest.

Hate Story 3 gave her a complete transformation as an actress

Hate Story 3 (2015) is the most successful movie of her career, and she appeared in a bold avatar aside Sharman Joshi and Karan Singh Grover. After that she mostly played similar kind of roles on screen. Aksar 2 (2017) was similar kind of role, which couldn’t repeat the success of Hate Story 3. She shared screen space with Gautam Rode and Abhinav Shukla in the movie. The following year she played lead role in horror movie, 1921, which received limited success. She shared screen space with Karan Kundra and its director Vikram Bhatt in the movie. Hum Bhi Akele Tum Bhi Akele is her upcoming Bollywood release.

She started accepting regional movies after she failed to receive good offers from Bollywood

She was first featured in a Punjabi film named Jatt James Bond in 2014, which was a commercial hit. In 2019 she appeared in second Punjabi movie, Daaka. Same year she moved to south Indian movies, and marked her screen debut in Telugu movie, Chanakya. She shared screen space with Gopichand in her debut flick. Though the movie failed to receive good reviews from critics, she definitely managed to gain attention from cine goers, where she played the role of Zubeida, RAW Agent in Karachi.

Zareen Khan – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She is often referred to as the look-alike of actress Katrina Kaif. She has also earned the nickname, ‘Poor man’s Katrina’.

2. When Salman Khan launched her in movies through Veer, he had just ended the rumoured relationship with Katrina Kaif. It was a mere co-incidence that she shares a lot of face resemblance with Kaif. Salman Khan has earlier faced exactly the same situation, when he launched Sneha Ullal through Lucky, soon after his breakup with Aishwarya. Sneha is known for her striking resemblance with Ash.

3. Salman Khan saw Zarine Khan for the first time on the sets of Subhash Ghai’s Yuvraj and later offered her the lead role in Veer. Zarine also attributes her success to Salman who gave her an early break in films.

4. She speaks Hindi, Urdu, English and Marathi, and Pashto.

5. Little Dimple Girl – is her nickname.

6. During her school days she used to eat a lot of junk food which attributed to her obesity and 100 kilos as a teenager.

7. She loves Punjabi people and her best friends are Punjabis.

8. During her early days in Bollywood she hired a gym instructor who gave her fitness training like Pilates, flips, swimming and yoga. She never sticks to a particular workout regime and prefers to try different routines.

9. She had a crush on Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi right from his early days in cricket. She was impressed by his hairstyle and looks.

10. She wants to do meaty roles on screen, and doesn’t want to stick to glamour roles. Yet it’s her glamorous and bold appearance in movies, for which she is known most.

11. Initially she didn’t want to do the bold avatar of Hate Story 3. But her financial condition was not so good that she accepted her mother’s wish. After her stunning avatar in the film, ‘bold avatar’ tag got permanently linked to her.

12. When #MeToo campaign stormed into Bollywood, she revealed one of her early casting couch experiences in Bollywood. She revealed that a film director wanted to rehearse a kissing scene which she denied, and that she had casting couch experience for the second time when a person in the film industry asked her if she is interested in moving on from friendship, and that he will help her in upcoming projects.

13. She was featured in the popular video, Pyaar Manga Hai aside Ali Fazal in 2016. The song was rendered by Armaan Malik and Neeti Mohan.

14. She received best female debutante award at PTC Punjabi Film Awards, for her impressive performance in Jatt James Bond.

15. In December 2018 she met with an accident in Goa, when a biked collided with her car and died at the spot.

16. She has made special appearance in many Bollywood songs after the huge popularity of “Character Dheela” song. “Khallas” from Veerappan and “Mahi Ve” from Wajah Tum Ho are among those. She also appeared in “Malgove” song of Tamil movie, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren.

17. Her debut movie – Veer featured very popular romantic track, “Surili Akhiyon Wale” filmed on she and Salman, and the voice was rendered by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. She has been featured in several remixed/revived versions of Bollywood hits.
