Tejasvi Surya – BJP’s youngest parliamentarian

Tejasvi Surya is a young political leader from Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He won Bangalore South constituency in Lok Sabha elections 2019 at the age of 28, the seat previously held by union minister Ananth Kumar since 1996, thus becoming the youngest ever parliamentarian belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. It’s his first term as MP. He founded Arise India – an NGO which cashes vote banks through their development processes in rural areas as well as education. Tejasvi Surya, an advocate by professor is also known for advocating strong Hindutva principles and traditional Indian culture.

Tejasvi Surya was born in 1990 in Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka. His family is closely related to Bharatiya Janata Party. As a teenager in 2009, he accompanied Ananth Kumar on his ‘Jan Chetna Yatra’ across India. He became a member of ABVP during his academic years and later became General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. After handling legal issues of prominent BJP politicians, mostly related to corruption and leading Digital Communications Team of Karnataka BJP for 2018 state assembly elections and a few more political processions, he became a favourite of national leaders, and it also helped him to get ticket to Lok Sabha from Bangalore South.

Tejasvi Surya – Some interesting and unknown facts

1. His birth name is L. Suryanarayana Tejasvi.

2. At the age of 28, he became the youngest MP of Bharatiya Janata Party.

3. As a school kid he received National Balashree Honour in 2001. In 1999, during Kargil war, he sold some of his paintings to collect 1220 rupees and later donated to Army Kargil Relief Fund.

4. He is an alumnus of Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies and also serves as an advocate in the High Court of Karnataka.

5. He has gained a reputation as a fiery orator, and became the choice over Ananth Kumar’s wife, Tejaswini AnanthKumar in Lok Sabha elections, due to his previous work.

6. Though he remains a youth icon, his sexist remarks and polarised speeches have often dragged him into controversies.

7. He won by a majority of 3, 31,192 votes in 2019 general elections.

8. He is the nephew of BJP leader and MLA L. A. Ravi Subramanya.
