Natural remedies to get rid of swelling caused by Rheumatism and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid Arthritis is always accompanied by pain and to make it worse, swelling of affected parts is common. During cold seasons conditions turn bitter. Through this column I shall provide a few simple natural remedies that can give you relief from swelling caused by Rheumatoid Arthritis. Most of the items in this list are available in countryside of Kerala, and I had to use common Malayalam words for a few cases. And in some cases, I couldn’t understand what the author told about. I got this topic from a Malayalam health magazine, and I added it just hoping a few patients will be benefited. Excuses.

1. Take banana flower of Poovan banana and chop into small pieces. Cook it without adding salt and serve it. You should use a banana bud as whole to get better results.

2. Fry a duck egg in pure neem oil. Oil should completely cover the fried egg. Serve it continuously for one week in the early morning in empty stomach.

3. Take some leaves of Ummam (Datura Stramonium Linn) and crush it well to extract juice. Boil it well and allow it to cool. Do ‘Dhara Koruka’ (Sorry, I don’t know its English substitution. Is it pouring that cooled water repeatedly on affected parts? Can any reader help me?). It reduces swelling caused by Raktha Vaatham (a type of arthritis).

4. Take Kaarellu, Devathaaram and jaggery in equal quantities. Take a dry coconut and pierce it to remove coconut water. Then fill it using the above ingredients and seal it using a bit of coconut. Use ‘Puttu Mannu’ (I think it’s the soil from termite mound, though not sure enough) to wrap it completely. Then using dum method, cook it in burning charcoal. Remove coconut shell and crush it well. Serve a small ‘Kadukka’ sized ball from this medicine twice every day.
