Kerala’s Puttu – Different varieties

Steam Cake, known as ‘Puttu’ in Malayalam is widely regarded to be a trademark dish of Kerala. This healthy breakfast dish is cooked in steam, and from banana to non-veg dishes, a wide range of side dishes can be served along with it. Now different varieties of Puttu have gained attention in the recent times. For normal rice puttu, scrapped coconut is used as fillings. Several vegetarian and non-vegetarian steam cakes can be prepared this way, by substituting coconut filling with desired variants.
