Idichakka Thoran (Tender Jackfruit Thoran)

Ingredients for Idichakka Thoran (Tender Jackfruit Thoran):

1. Idichikka (Tender jackfruit – raw) – 1

2. Coconut oil – 2 big spoons

3. Mustard seeds – ½ small spoon

4. Black gram daal (Uzhunnu Paripp) – 1 big spoon

    Red chillies – 3, cut into two pieces each

    Shallots – 2, cut into round thin pieces

    Curry leaves – 2 stalks

5. Coconut scrapped – 1.5 cups

    Garlic – 6 cloves

    Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon

   Chilli powder – ½ big spoon

   Pepper powder – 1 big spoon

6. Salt – As required

How to prepare Idichakka Thoran (Tender Jackfruit Thoran)?

1. Cut jackfruit into small pieces, remove the skin and thorns.

2. Cook jackfruit adding enough water and crush it well.

3. Crush for thoran, ingredients no: 5.

4. Heat coconut oil and splutter mustards.

5. Add ingredients no: 4 and fry till golden brown.

6. Add ingredients no: 5 and sauté again.

7. Add jackfruit, enough salt and sprinkle a little water.

8. Mix well and cook in low flame with lid closed.

9. When vapours come out, mix well using a spatula, and fry till water content is fully absorbed.

Ingredients for Idichakka Thoran (Tender Jackfruit Thoran) Recipe 2:

1. Idichakka (Tender jackfruit raw) – 1 small, cut into pieces

2. Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon

    Salt – For taste

3. Coconut – ½, scrapped

    Shallots – 2

    Garlic – 2 cloves

    Green chillies – 3

4. Coconut oil – 1.5 big spoons

5. Black gram dal – 1 small spoon

6. Mustard – 1 small spoon

    Curry leaves – 1 stem

How to prepare Idichakka Thoran (Tender Jackfruit Thoran) Recipe 2?

1. Cook jackfruit in a pressure cooker, adding salt and turmeric powder. Wait till 3 whistles.

2. Crush ingredients no: 3 together.

3. Gently smash cooked jackfruit.

4. Heat oil in a pan, and fry black gram dal first.

5. Add mustard and curry leaves, followed by crushed coconut mixture.

6. Mix it well and finally add jackfruit.

7. Close the lid, and cook your thoran in low flame for 5 minutes.

Tip: Make big pieces of jackfruit along with skin and thorns and steam cook it. You can easily remove the outer portion once it’s cooked. Later you can smash easily.
