Garry Sandhu – Punjabi pop singer

Garry Sandhu is a popular Punjabi pop singer. He is also a songwriter and has acted in one Punjabi film, Romeo Ranjha in 2014 aside Jazzy B. He is the owner of record label Fresh Media Records, through which he releases his songs. Since 2010 he has released many albums, and many of its songs became extremely popular. Mai Nhi Peenda Han Diya Tera Ishq was his debut song. He rose to fame from a very humble background, after more than a decade of struggles in UK in his 20s. Excuses, Ego, Ladoo, Yeah Baby, Love You Jatta etc are some of his popular songs.

Garry Sandhu is the stage name of Gurmukh Singh Sandhu from Punjab. He was born in 1984 in Rurka Kalan of Jalandhar into a family with humble background. His father was a driver. He used to sing bhajans in a Gurudwara along with his friend during his childhood days. In 2002 in his late teens he reached Birmingham illegally, and stayed there with a different name. During his 10 year stay in UK, he did various odd jobs including labourer and salesman at different cities, went missing also, and was finally arrested and deported to India in 2012. One year prior to it, he released his first album – Fresh. Though started writing during his early days in UK, it took 8 years to release his first song.

After reaching India he fully concentrated on his music career and made a mark of his own. He came to limelight for the first time after his debut Punjabi song – Mai Nhi Peenda Han Diya Tera Ishq in 2010 became a chartbuster. He also released countless album songs under his own record label. He is in a relationship with Punjabi singer Jasmine Sandlas.

1. Garry is quite popular for his distinct hair looks.

2. He was not interested in studies and used to run away from school.

3. He failed in his 10^th standard exams in his first attempt.

4. He loved and used to play football during his childhood days.

5. His popular song “Yeah Baby” was reused for Ajay Devgan-Tabu starrer Bollywood flick – De De Pyaar De. The song was reused as “Hauli Hauli” and Garry rendered his voice aside Neha Kakkar.

6. Once deported from UK for staying there illegally, he gave his live performance in UK in an event – E3UK Live 2019, after 7 years.

7. He owns a clothing line named ‘Fresh’ named after his debut album. It has stores in different parts of Punjab.

8. He had a huge crush on Kajol during his schooldays and used to bunk school to watch her films.

9. He didn’t take formal learning in music, except that he learnt Kavishari, a form of folk music from Gurdeep Singh at the age of 13.
