Coconut Rice

This dish is called Thenga Saadam in Tamil Nadu. It’s a variety of rice recipe where coconut is added as one of the main ingredients along with rice. And here is its recipe.

Ingredients for Coconut Rice:

1. Coconut oil – 3 big spoons

2. Urud daal (black gram daal) – 1 big spoon

3. Mustard – 1 small spoon

4. Red chillies – 6

    Asafoetida powder – ½ small spoon

5. Coconut scrapped- ½ cup

6. Ponni rice cooked – 3 cups

7. Salt – For taste

How to prepare Coconut Rice?

1. Heat oil and sauté urud daal.

2. Sputter mustard seeds.

3. Add red chillies and asafoetida powder, and mix well.

4. Add scrapped coconut and sauté till it turns light red.

5. Add cooked rice and salt, and mix well.

6. Serve your coconut rice hot.
