Alappuzha Style Crab Curry

Ingredients for Alappuzha Style Crab Curry:

1. Crab – 650 gm (before cleaning)

2. Onion chopped fine – 2

3. Tomato chopped – 2

4. Ginger crushed – 1 piece

5. Garlic crushed – 10 cloves

6. Kashmiri chilli powder – 2 table spoons

7. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

8. Coriander powder – 1 table spoon

9. Garam masala powder – ½ table spoon

10. Coconut milk – 1 cup

11. Curry leaves – 3 nos.

12. Salt and coconut oil – For frying

For tempering:

1. Mustard – ½ tsp

2. Fenugreek – ¼ tsp

3. Shallots chopped thin – 2 table spoons

4. Coconut oil – 2 table spoons

How to prepare Alappuzha Style Crab Curry?

1. Heat an earthen pot or thick bottomed pan and heat oil.

2. Sauté onions, followed by sliced tomatoes, ginger and garlic.

3. When raw smell goes out, add the powders and fry well.

4. Add crab pieces, a few curry leaves and 1 cup water.

5. Cook crab pieces in low flame.

6. After 6-8 minutes, add coconut milk.

7. When crab is well cooked put off the flame.

8. Heat 2 table spoons of oil in a pan and add mustard, fenugreek, shallots and remaining curry leaves.

9. Fry all these ingredients and add to your special Alappuzha crab curry.
