Varuvaanillaarume song from Manichitrathazhu – Lyrics in English with Translation

Varuvaanillarumingorunalumee-

Vazhikkariyam Athennalumennum,

Priyamulloralaaro Varuvanudennu Njan,

Veruthe Mohikkumallo,

Ennum Veruthe Mohikkumallo

I know, there is no one

To come in my lonely path any longer

Yet, every day,

I desire in vain,

Someone dear to me will come this way

I desire in vain….

Palavattom Pookalam Vazhithetti,

Poyittangorunaalum Pookkamangombil,

Athinayi Mathramayoruneram Rithumari,

Madhumasamanayarundallo

Many times, spring lost its path

And reaches the branch of mango tree which never blossoms,

And for that only,

Season changes & *Madhu month comes in

Varuvanillarumee Vijanamamen,

Vazhikkariyam Athennalumennum,

Though I know, there is no one to come

In my lonely path,

Padivathilolam Chennakalathaavazhiyake,

Mizhipaaki Nilkarundallo,

Mizhipaki Nilkarundallo,

I go every time till the doorstep,

And stand, fixing my eyes in that path,

Seen far away.

Priyamulloralaro Varuvanundennu Njan,

Veruthe Mohikkarundallo

I hope in vain every day,

There is someone dear to me,

Who will come this way.

Varummennu Chollippirinjupoyillarum,

Ariyam Athennalumennum,

Pathivayi Njanente Padivaathilenthino,

Pakuthiye Charaarullo,

Priyamulloralaaro Varuvanudennu Njanennum,

Veruthe Mohikkumallo

No one has parted from me,

Saying, will return…

Though I am aware of that,

As a habit always,

I close my front door half only.

And hope in vain every day,

There is someone dear to me,

Who will come this way.

Ninayaatha Nerathen Padivathilil

Oru Padavinyasam Kettapole,

At an unexpected moment,

I felt like,

Someone’s footsteps at my door step

Varavayalorunaalum Piriyaathen Madhumasam,

Oru Mathra Konduvannenno,

Innorumathra Konduvannenno

Is it that *Madhu month,

That a single moment brought in,

Which never separates if in case comes in?

Today, did that single moment bring? (Madhu month)

Kothiyode Odichennakalathaavazhiyile-

Kkirukannum Neettunna Neram,

The moments when I run with desire

And extend both my eyes,

Towards the path at distance,

Vazhithetti Vannaro Pakuthikkuvachente,

Vazhiye Thirichu Pokunnu,

Ente Vazhiye Thirichupokunnu,

Ente Vazhiye Thirichupokunnu

Someone who lost his path,

And came here,

Is returning from the half pathway…

Going back through my path,

Is going back through my path

*Madhu Maasam – Almost the Malayalam month Meenam (hot summer) when mango tree blossoms. Spring can’t blossom mango trees. Yet poet hides his expectations of someone’s return in these lines.

Those people who part silently will never return, though we keep futile hopes!!!
