Sudipta Chakraborty – National award winning Bengali actress of ‘Bariwali’ fame
Sudipta Chakraborty is an extremely talented actress associated with Bengali cinema. She is best known for playing a maid – Malati in Bariwali (2000) which bagged her National award for best supporting role. She mostly plays character roles. Bengali actress Bidipta Chakraborty is her elder sister, and Bengali filmmaker Birsa Dasgupta is her brother-in-law. Her first husband Rajesh Sharma is also a film actor. She has also worked as a news caster in television industry, and has received Kalakar Award in 2000 for the news bulletin ‘Khas Khobor’.
Sudipta Chakraborty hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. Her father Biplab Ketan Chakraborty was a veteran theatre artist and film actor (passed away in November 2018). Her mother Dipali and sister Bidisha are dancers. Her second sister Bidipta Chakraborty was already an established theatre actress when Sudipta joined films. Siblings joined film industry almost at the same time. Sudipta took graduation in English from IGNOU. Less-known film Sanghaat marked her screen debut, followed by Bariwali, which gave her National award. The role also gave her BFJA award for best supporting actress. Since then she is regular in Bengali film scene, playing character roles. She was later seen in movies such as Half serious, Novel Chor, C/O Sir, Goynar Baksho, Abosheshey, Chaar, Buno Haansh, Jyeshthoputro,Sweater, Open Tee Bioscope, Hitlist etc.
She married actor Rajesh Sharma in 2005 and they legally separated 4 years later. Both the actors remarried later. Sudipta married Abhishek Saha in 2014. She has one child. She has been a part of several plays and TV shows. Bikele Bhorer Shorshe Phool, Kacher Dewal and Baghu Manna are among her stage plays. She has been offered the titular role of the biopic, Platform Singer Ranu Mondal, based on the internet sensation Ranu Mondal.

1. Bariwali (2000) – the movie gave Kirron Kher, National award for best actress and Sudipta Chakraborty, best supporting actress.
2. As her sister is married to filmmaker Birsa Dasgupta, she is related to filmmakers – Raja Dasgupta (Bidipta’s father-in-law), Ribhu Dasgupta (Bidipta’s brother-in-law) and documentary filmmaker, Harisadhan Dasgupta (Bidipta’s grandfather-in-law). Thus she is also related to Chaitali Dasgupta – actress and TV presenter (Bidipta’s mother-in-law).
3. After winning National award, she was mostly offered domestic help roles. To avoid type casting, she started rejecting them.
