Semiya Sambaar Saadam


Ingredients for Semiya Sambaar Saadam:

  1. Semiya (vermicelli) – 100 gm
  2. Sambaar dal (Thuvara paripp) – ½ cup
  3. Refined groundnut oil – 1 big spoons
  4. Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  5. White guard or green papaya – 1 cup square pieces
  6. Tamarind water – ¼ cup
  7. Sambar powder – 1 big spoon
  8. Fenugreek seeds – 1/8 tsp
  9. Coriander and curry leaves – a handful
  10. Salt – as needed
  11. Red chilli cut into three pieces – 1
  12. Ghee – 1 big spoon
 

How to prepare Semiya Pongal for breakfast?

  1. Heat a little ghee in a pan and fry semiya till it becomes light brown in colour.
  2. Boil 6 cups of water with 1/8 tsp salt and cook vermicelli. Never over cook it. Drain excess water.
  3. Add white guard pieces, daal, salt and enough water to a pressure cooker and cook well.
  4. Then pour it another vessel, add sambar powder and tamarind water and prepare sambar.
  5. Heat oil and ghee together. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds to splutter.
  6. Then add red chillies and curry leaves to it. Put the flame off and add this oil to sambar for seasoning. Add coriander leaves vermicelli and stir well. It should be thick.
  7. Add cooked green gram and coconut. Let whole water to be absorbed. Put the flame off.
