Sardine Vattichathu (Mathi Vattichathu)

Ingredients for Sardine Vattichathu (Mathi Vattichathu):

1. Sardine (Mathi/Chaala) – 15

2. Shallots – 25

    Garlic – 1 as full

    Ginger – 1-inch piece

3. Coconut oil – 3 big spoons

4. Curry leaves – 4 stems

5. Crushed chillies – 2 small spoons

    Turmeric powder – A pinch

6. Water – 1 glass

    Salt – For taste

    Vinegar – 1 small spoon

How to prepare Sardine Vattichathu (Mathi Vattichathu)?

1. Clean fish and keep it aside.

2. Crush together ingredients no: 2.

3. Heat an earthen pot and add coconut oil.

4. When it heats sauté crushed ingredients and curry leaves.

5. When it slightly sautés, add crushed chillies and turmeric powder.

6. Add ingredients no: 6 and allow the contents to boil.

7. Add sardines and cook it well.

8. It should not turn fully dry, yet water content should be almost absorbed.
