Rukmini Vasanth – Kannada film actress of ‘Birbal Trilogy’ fame

Rukmini Vasanth is an upcoming actress of Kannada cinema. She marked her screen debut with 2019 Sandalwood film, ‘Birbal’ – Kannada’s first ever trilogy. The movie was titled – Birbal Trilogy – Case 1: Finding Vajramuni. She was paired with MG Srinivas, who scripted and directed the movie released in 2019. The movie opened to rave reviews and was a hit. Rukmini Vasanth portrayed a junior advocate in this flick, an investigation thriller. She is a theatre artist who started her acting career at the age of 10 as a stage artist, and later graduated from Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in Bloomsbury, London.

Rukmini Vasanth hails from Bangalore, Karnataka. Her father served in army and her mother in a Bharatnatyam dancer. She has one sister. Because her father was an army man, her childhood days were spent in different cities. She joined theatre at the tender age of 10. Both her parents are theatre artists. She has been the part of theatre group, Silent Front, where both her parents worked, and she has acted in many plays scripted by her parents. At the age of 13, she got serious about theatre. She lost her father in a terrorist attack in 2007.

She completed schooling from Cambridge Centre. Later she studied acting from RADA, and started giving auditions to pursue a career in films. She was finalized for the lead role of Birbal after 4 long hours of audition. Thus she became the female lead of Sandalwood’s first-ever trilogy, Birbal Trilogy – Case 1: Finding Vajramuni which hit screens in 2019. She played advocate Jhanvi Bhargav in the movie that can be tagged as legal thriller.

Rukmini Vasanth – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. Her father Colonel Vasanth Venugopal is the first recipient of Ashoka Chakra award from the state of Karnataka. He was posthumously awarded the honour.

2. Her father who was the commanding officer of the 9th battalion, Maratha Light Infantry was killed in 2007 while preventing invaders at India-Pakistan border at Uri.

3. After the death of her father, her mother started an NGO which helped the family of soldiers, who become martyrs.

4. As she was brought up in Army discipline, she learnt to adapt to various aspects in life and she loved their way of living too.

5. Her pastimes include writing and painting.

6. She is a third generation dancer from her family. She is trained in Bharatnatyam and ballet and is a performer on stage.

7. After doing a thriller, she is now interested in doing a comedy film.
