Ruchi Sanghvi – Facebook’s first female IT engineer

Ruchi Sanghvi is an IT professional and a successful entrepreneur who currently owns South Park Commons, a residential and professional tech space established in 2016. She has also invested in numerous Silicon Valley companies, and also serves as an advisor. She is best known as the first female employee hired by Facebook, when she joined the group along with her husband Aditya Agarwal in 2005. They got married in 2010 while working with Fb and Mark Zuckerberg attended their marriage. 

Ruchi Sanghvi was born in Pune in 1982 into a business family. Initially she wanted to join family business but changed her plan later, and joined IT field. She completed her studies in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2004, and also dated Aditya Agarwal, her college-mate, who later became a very successful IT professional, and they together collaborated for many projects after marriage. Soon after studies she took a job at Oracle Corporation, Silicon Valley.

In 2005 she joined Facebook, and left the group in 2010 to start her own company, ‘Cove’ in 2010. The company was bought by Dropbox in 2011, and she joined the same company as VP of Operations. Two years later she left the group to start South Park Commons in 2016. Currently she is associated with this IT company.

Ruchi Sanghvi – Some interesting facts

1. She was one of the first 10 engineers hired by Facebook Company in 2005.

2. She didn’t regularly used computer till she joined as a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).

3. While at college she was one among the 5 female students out of 150 students who studied Electrical Computer Engineering.

4. She was one among the professionals who worked behind the first version of Facebook’s News Feed product in 2006. Same year she became product lead for Facebook Platform.

5. During the formative years of FB, she played a key role in shaping world’s most influential social media platform.

6. She has worked in Oracle, Facebook, Cove, and Dropbox in association with her husband.

7. She received “Best Engineering Leadership Award” in 2011 for her professional work and achievements at Facebook.

8. The IT couple has worked together in many companies like Facebook, Oracle etc and post marriage too, they embarked their professional journey together.
