Rava Pongal
Rava Pongal is a Tamil Nadu dish prepared during celebrations. Rava (Sooji) and green gram is used for its preparation. Coconut, normally needed for such preparations is not used in Rava Pongal.
Ingredients for Rava Pongal :
- Rava – 2 cups
- Green gram daal fried – ½ cup
- Cumin seeds – ¾ tsp
- Pepper – 1 ¼ tsp
- Ginger – 1 piece
- Cashew nut -15
- Ghee, salt – as needed
How to prepare Rava Pongal ?
- Add 3 small spoons of ghee to a pan and fry rava till it becomes golden brown.
- Cook green gram daal.
- Heat ½ tsp ghee. Fry cumin seeds and pepper. When it cools crush them together. No need to make a powder.
- Boil 2.5 cups of water and add salt and crushed ginger to it. When it boils, add rava and stir continuously. Cook it.
- Add cooked green peas daal, cumin-pepper crushed mixture, cashew nuts and sufficient ghee and put the flame off.
