Prawns – Ivy Gourd Thoran (Chemeen Kovakka Thoran)

Ingredients for Prawns – Ivy Gourd Thoran (Chemeen Kovakka Thoran):

1. Pot tamarind – 2 cloves

2. Coconut scrapped – 1 cup

    Ginger chopped into match stick like thin structures – 1 big spoon

    Green chillies – 4 or 5, chopped fine

    Red chillies – 2, split

    Shallots – 50 gm, chopped

    Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon

    Chilli powder – ½ small spoon

    Salt – For taste

3. Coconut oil – 3 big spoons

4. Prawns – ½ kg (remove waste and wash it)

    Ivy guard (Kovakka) – 100 gm, cut into lengthy pieces.

5. Mustard – 1 small spoon

    Curry leaves – 2 stems

    Red chillies – 2, broken

How to prepare Prawns – Ivy Gourd Thoran (Chemeen Kovakka Thoran)?

1. Soak pot tamarind in water.

2. Crush ingredients no: 2 together.

3. Add 2 big spoons of coconut oil to this coconut gravy and stir well.

4. Add ivy gourd and cleaned prawns to it, and manually mix the contents.

5. Add pot tamarind too.

6. Heat remaining oil in an earthen pot and sauté ingredients no: 5.

7. Add prawns-ivy gourd mixture to it and sprinkle a little water.

8. Close the lid, reduce the flame and cook the contents.

9. Water content should be fully absorbed.

10. Serve hot.
