Pizhinj Payasam

Ingredients for Pizhinj Payasam:

1. Unakkalari (Raw rice without removing the rice bran /Nurukk) – 200 gm

2. Jaggery – 500 gm

3. Coconut – 5

4. Kadali banana – 2 nos:

5. Ghee – 100 gm

6. Dried ginger powder – 25 gm

7. Cardamom powder – 25 gm

8. Cumin powder – 25 gm

How to prepare Pizhinj Payasam?

1. Extract 1.5 cups of 1st milk from coconut and 2.5 cups of second milk.

2. Heat an urli and pour sufficient water.

3. Cook rice in this water.

4. When it’s almost done, add melted jaggery and mix well.

5. Allow the contents to boil and add second extract of coconut milk.

6. Continue cooking till the payasam thickens.

7. Add the powders, ghee and mix well.

8. Put off the flame.

9. Add 1st extract coconut milk.

10. Blend the banana in a mixer and add to payasam.

11. Allow the payasam to cool and serve.
