Nikhat Khan – Aamir Khan’s sister who produced ‘Tum Mere Ho’

Nikhat Khan, best known as the sibling of Bollywood star Aamir Khan is a film producer. She is the daughter of Bollywood filmmaker Tahir Hussain and niece of ace filmmaker Nasir Hussain. Known actor Tariq Khan of Hum Kise Se Kum Nahi fame and director Mansoor Khan (son of Nasir Hussain) are her first cousins. Her elder brother Faisal Khan has also appeared in a few movies, though not so successful. Actor Imran Khan of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na fame is her nephew. She marked her screen debut with 2019 biographical drama film, Saand Ki Aankh, where she played the supporting role of Maharani Mahedra Kumari.

She is the elder sibling of Aamir Khan, born in year 1963. Lucknow is her hometown, and now she is settled in Mumbai with her family. Though she belongs to a family of filmmakers and actors and owns good looks, she never pursued a career in acting. She made a late entry to films only in 2019 at the age of 53. Born to Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain, she has two brothers and one sister. Like her, her sister Farhat Khan too never pursued a career in Bollywood.

Nikhat Khan had only a brief career in Bollywood as a film producer when she produced the film, ‘Tum Mere Ho’ in 1990. It was the single work of her father as a screenwriter and director. The movie starring Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla explored the theme of incarnation and was based on snake charmers. Though Aamir Khan – Juhi Chawla starrer QSQT directed by her cousin released prior to it was a huge blockbuster, Tum Mere Ho was a huge flop. Except the title track, everything related to the film went unnoticed. Nikhat is married to Santosh Hegde and has two kids.

Nikhat Khan – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She is related to India’s first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

2. She belongs to a family of many freedom fighters, and is a descendant of Zakir Hussain, former president of India.

3. During her childhood when her father’s movies became huge flops, her family faced a lot of financial crisis.

4. She worked as an assistant in costume designing section for 2002 movie, Hum Kise Se Kum Nahi. Interestingly the movie title was reused from one of the top hits directed by her uncle, Nasir Hussain in the 1970s, where her cousin Tariq Khan played parallel lead.

5. She also did costume designing for Qayamat se Qayamat Tak (1988), the first hit movie of Aamir Khan’s career.

6. In 2013 she turned a lyricist for Bollywood film, Besharam starring Ranbir Kapoor. She penned two songs for the movie, Tu Hai Bas Tu Hai and Tere Mohalle.

7. Her son is a computer engineer based in USA.

8. She had a brief stint in Bollywood as an actress, producer and costume designer, dabbling with different job roles. But she never pursued Bollywood as a full-time profession.

9. Well-known actor Raj Zutshi is related to Hussain family, as Raj is the stepfather of Imran Khan, young actor from the family.
