Mrinal Mukherjee – Veteran Bengali actor

Mrinal Mukherjee was a veteran actor associated with Bengali entertainment industry. He was an actor, theatre personality and music director. He was active in the film industry for 5 decades till his death in 2019, and Kelo, Nirbhoya (2018) and Don No. 1 (2018) are some of his recent works. He was suffering from cancer and liver related ailments, when he passed away aged 74 after prolonged illness. Galpa Holeo Satyi, Dui Bon, Nayika Sangbad, Chutti, Shriman Prithviraj etc are some of his noted appearances in Bengali cinema.

Mrinal Mukherjee started his film journey in year 1955 film Dui Bon. Over the years, he became a part of Bengali theatre and television as well. He excelled in playing character roles on big screen. He was last seen in the TV series, Joy Kali Kolkattawali. His role in the TV series, Amlaki was also popular. He has worked as the music composer for the movie, Pather Sesh Kothay, and rendered his voice as a playback singer for Phire Paoa. In fact he loves music along with acting. He has worked in Bollywood film, Mausam (1975) directed by Gulzar, in a supporting role.

1. Mrinal Mukherjee is a singer too. In fact he wanted to become a singer, but he became an actor.

2. He has three children – a son and two daughters. His son Debopriyo Mukherjee is an actor, his daughter Jo Jo Mukherjee is a singer and his second daughter Tina Mukherjee is a model.

3. He has been a part of several movies of Tapan Sinha.
