Menaskai

 

Menaskai is a traditional Udupi dish, a dessert served during meals. It is usually served after rasam.

Ingredients for Menaskai:

1. Ripen mango with sour taste – 4

2. Sesame seeds black – 2 small spoons

    Fenugreek – ½ small spoon

    Urud dal (black gram dal) – 2 small spoons

    Bengal gram – 1 small spoon

    Red chillies – 6

3. Coconut scrapped – ½ cup

4. Jaggery powdered – 1.5 cups

   Turmeric powder – A pinch

    Salt – For taste

5. Oil – 2 small spoons

6. Mustard – 1 small spoon

   Urud dal – 1 small spoon

    Red chillies – 4 pieces

How to prepare Menaskai?

1. Fry ingredients no: 2 in a little oil till it turns colour.

2. Make a fine paste of these ingredients along with coconut, adding very little water.

3. Cut mango into pieces, smash it well and boil it adding a little water.

4. Add ingredients no: 4 and coconut paste and boil for a few more minutes.

5. Temper ingredients no: 6 in hot oil and add to Menaskai.
