Lehmber Hussainpuri – Bhangra singer, based on UK and US, of Punjabi origin

Lehmber Hussainpuri is a popular Bhangra singer from Punjab who has done a few Bollywood songs also. He is now based in US and UK. He sang Bollywood tracks – Mallo Malli of Mausam and Sadi Gali of Tanu Weds Manu, apart from numerous hit Bhangra tracks such as Mil De Yaar, Ah Ni Kuria, Mele Vich Jatt and Tin Cheejha (from the album – Unda The Influence) in collaboration with Dr. Zeus and Daru, Mela, Gabru Shakeen, Kich Ke Legeya etc. His compilation album – The Best of Lehmber Hussainpuri (2005) was also a hit after which he sang many Bollywood tracks. In traditional Bhangra or modern style, Hussainpuri owns numerous hit Punjabi songs to his credit.

Lehmber Hussainpuri was born in 1977 in Himachal Pradesh. Thathal of Una district is his native village. He is associated with the world of music since 2001. Sanu Sohni Lagdi – was his debut song which got noticed. His association with Dr. Zeus remained successful. They initially planned to release an album in 2001, but got released four years later titled Folk Attack. His classic ‘Das Ja’ was selected as Third Best UK Bhangra Song of All-Time by BBC Asian Network’s Bhangra Britain season in 2014. The songs were selected from 1970s onwards and 50 were shortlisted.

Lehmber Hussainpuri – Some interesting facts

1. Sadi Gali of Tanu Weds Manu (2011) was originally released by Lehmber in 2005 (Sadi Gali aaya karo- Simply RDB). The song was later reused in the Bollywood movie which became an instant chartbuster.

2. Folk Attack 1 and 2, Chalakiyan etc are some of his released albums.

3. “Matha Tekhiya” in 2011 was one of his major hits in UK.

4. Though he signed with Envy Records, UK for an international album, because of some controversies it didn’t happen.

5. He has sung for Bollywood and Punjabi movies, apart from independent work.
