A brief note on Kilipatt (Bird’s song) – A brief note on Kilipatt (bird song) mentioned in song. It’s related to Malayalam literature & great epics translated to Malayalam by Ezhuthachan, recognized as “Father of Malayalam Literature”. He was the first Malayalam poet to translate both Ramayana & Mahabharata from Sanskrit. It was during a time of superstitions when he translated epics. It was believed that, if someone directly translates epics, it brings bad luck. So, the poet wrote all epics as if a bird is narrating the story of Rama, Krishna etc. Thus he gave birth to a new branch – Kilipaatt Prasthanam (Parrot song) in Malayalam literature. Each chapter is narrated by parrot.

Thunjan Paramp, believed to be his birth place is a major spot on Vijayadasami, where kids start learning with Harishree. Karkidakam, the last month of Malayalam calendar is dedicated to Ramayan reading at homes & temples.

First line of the song can also be interpreted as “The girl, who waited for me”.

“You are the girl I am waiting for/I waited for” is also correct.

Only the poet can tell, what he meant with this line

*Indulekha could be crescent moon or girl with the name. Also the first major novel in Malayalam is the same, which tells the story of a girl, Indulekha.
