Kani Ada
Normally ada is prepared using banana leaves. But when you make it for Vishu, leaves of ‘Plasu’ tree (Butea monosperma) are used for the same. This tree is known as bastard teak, flame-of-the-forest etc.
Ingredients for Kani Ada:
1. Rice flour – 2 cups
2. Water – ¾ cup
Salt – For taste
3. Jaggery – 200 gm, peeled
Coconut – 1.5, scrapped
How to prepare Kani Ada?
1. Heat rice flour slightly.
2. Add salt and water and prepare the thick batter.
3. Its consistency should be enough to spread on Plasu leaf.
4. Take small balls from the batter and spread on leaves.
5. Apply water on your palm and spread the batter evenly.
6. Mix jaggery and scrapped coconut to prepare the filling.
7. Place a little filling in the middle portion of batter spread on leaf.
8. Fold the sides first and then its middle portion to completely enclose dough and its filling.
9. Continue the process for remaining dough and filling.
10. Steam cook your sweet adas and serve for special occasion.
