Kadamba Sadam

This Sadam contains a lot of veggies, and in a few places, it’s also called Sambar Sadam, as most of the ingredients of Sambar are added to it, including toor dal, drumstick, tomatoes, okra and tamarind juice. Here is one among the easy recipes to prepare Kadamba Sadam at home.

Ingredients for Kadamba Sadam:

1. Coconut oil – 2 small spoons

2. Red chillies – 9

    Coriander seeds – 1 big spoon

    Bengal gram – ½ small spoon

    Urud dal – ½ small spoon

    Coconut scrapped – 1.5 big spoons

    Fenugreek – ½ small spoon

    Curry leaves – 2 stems

3. White rice – 1.5 cups

4. Potatoes – 2

    Toor dal – ¼ cup

    Green peas – ¼ cup

5. Raw banana – 1

6. Eggplant (green or violet) – 1, big

    Drumstick – 2

    Okra – 3

7. Tamarind juice – Extracted from Lemon-sized

8. Pumpkin – 1 small piece

9. Tomato – 2

10. Salt – For taste

     Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon

     Ghee – 2 small spoons

How to prepare Kadamba Sadam?

1. Heat oil and fry ingredients no: 2.

2. When the contents cool, make a fine powder.

3. Boil water and cook rice. (Never overcook it)

4. Once done, drain off excess water from rice and spread it on a wide plate to cool completely.

5. Cook dal, green peas and potatoes separately.

6. Slice boiled potatoes into lengthy pieces.

7. Peel off the skin of raw banana, and cut into lengthy pieces similar to Avial.

8. Cut eggplant, okra and drum-stick also into lengthy pieces similar to Avial.

9. Heat oil in a broad pan, sauté the vegetables, and take off from flame.

10. Boil tamarind juice and add sauted vegetables along with pumpkin, salt, turmeric powder and powdered curry masala (coconut and other ingredients).

11. When the contents are cooked, add chopped tomatoes and cook well.

12. When it’s done, add cooked green peas, potatoes and dal and boil the contents.

13. Add rice and ghee, mix well and serve.
