Ifthi – Malayalam music composer of ‘June’ fame

Ifthi is a music composer and singer associated with independent music and Malayalam films. He has composed independent songs in Malayalam and Hindi since year 2000, and marked his film debut as a music composer and background scorer in 2019 through romantic film, June. The soft romantic songs like “Minni Minni” became immensely popular and earned fame from Mollywood. He was only 15 years old, studying in 10th grade when he released his debut album ‘Dil Hai Deewana’ in 2000. The album included songs in Malayalam and Hindi.

Ifthi is a native of Trikaripur in Kasaragod district. He was born in 1983. Composed his first musical album ‘Dil Hai Deewana’ while studying in class 10, he released his second album Mantra in Malayalam, 5 years later. He released a Hindi single That Moment in 2012 and same year his major work – Patchwork, with songs in Hindi and English, collaborating with 29 artists and 49 technicians from 9 countries. In 2014 he released the single The Wait in Hindi and Tamil, and also has given the theme music of Malayalam film, D Company earlier.

Ifthi – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. He was only a young teenager at school when he released his first music album. But it took 19 long years to receive first break in Malayalam film industry as a music composer.

2. He is not formally trained in classical music, yet learnt harmonium from Rajesh Trikaripur for 2 months while studying in class 10. He used to play film songs in piano those days.

3. After plus-2, he studied multimedia at Bangalore and worked in Dubai for 5 years before he decided to pursue his true passion – music.

4. He started a software start-up with his friends in Kochi, and later shifted the company to Bangalore. Currently he is pursuing his musical career along with his job at Bangalore.

5. His international work Patchwork collaborated with artists like Lucky Ali, Anaitha Nair, Shruthi Hassan, Andrea Jerimiah, Harish Sivaramakrishnan, Rahul Raj etc. He composed 17 songs for the album, and also featured in most of its music videos.

6. He was introduced to June’s director Ahammed Khabeer in 2012 for shooting a music video for his international album, Patchwork. Though it didn’t materialize they collaborated together for a few short films before June happened.
