Minsara Kanav (Sapne) accumulated all musical awards at National film awards 1997, except best lyricist. In fact Vairamuthu penned more than 80% of hit Rahman songs in Tamil. Rahman received best music, Chithra for best female playback for this song, S.P. Bala Subrahmaniyam for sizzling “Thanga Thamarai” song. Prabhadeva, who played male lead too, received best choreography for two of its songs – Strawberry & Vennila (Chanda Re).

When it comes to playback singing, singing style of Chithra is entirely different in this song. She sang in a carefree mode as asked by composer…. and her voice modulation is different in different portions. In fact, she almost sings the song in high pitch, even singing 3-4 lines in a breath, without breaking voice – not an easy task.

Film director Gautam Menon, during his early days in films, while working as an assistant, appears in this song in the crowd, in 2 shots, it seems.

Now he is one of the leading directors of Tamil cinema, and does character roles too. He directed 2 Hindi films. Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein was only his second film, but debut flick in Hindi, which earned a cult status after release. Ekk Deewana Tha – the 2nd one, both are remakes of his own movies. Ekk Deewana Tha was shot with a positive climax, unlike original Tamil version – Vinne Thandi Varuvaaya. In fact the film title was coined from ‘Vennilave’ song of Minsara Kanavu, the movie in which he appears in ‘Hoo La La’ song among the crowd.
