Farheen – Bollywood actress of 1990s of ‘Jaan Tere Naam’ fame

Farheen Khan, best known as Farheen is a Bollywood actress who worked in the industry in the first half of 1990s, and a few south Indian films. Though her brief career in Bollywood was not so successful, she is best known as the look alike of her contemporary actress Madhuri Dixit. Yet Farheen appeared in handful of movies in mostly in the first half of 1990s. Jaan Tere Naam opposite Ronit Roy in 1992 is her most successful role for which she is known most. She also played female lead in Nazar Ke Samne, Amaanat, Fauj, Dil ki baazi, Aag Ka Toofan and Sainik of 1990s. She quit film career after secretly marrying controversial cricketer Manoj Prabhakar, a married man with kids.

Farheen was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1973. She made an impressive debut in 1992 with Bollywood film, Jaan Tere Naam. Bollywood went gaga over the Madhuri Dixit lookalike, and it helped her to get a few romantic roles in Bollywood. She did two south indian films soon after her first Bollywood release. She met Manoj Prabhakar two years later. Initially they were good friends, and latter their friendship blossomed into love. She married the cricketer and stood with him during his bad times of match fixing allegations, and disappeared from screen. Now Farheen lives with her husband Manoj in Delhi with two kids. Rohan, Manoj’s son from first marriage is now married and lives with the family. Agni Prem (1996) was her last release.

1. Farheen is a Tamilian, though she gained recognition through Bollywood films.

2. She played second lead in Sainik, one of the noted roles of Akshay Kumar during his early phase in Bollywood.

3. She turned down the lead role of Baazigar in 1993, due to date issues. The film could have changed her course of journey in Bollywood.

4. She appeared in the iconic investigation thriller series on Doordarshan – Tehkikaat in 1993-1994.

5. Though there were speculations that she is to make a comeback to Bollywood with the sequel of Jaan Tere Naam, it’s yet to happen. She was to play the mother of its lead heroine. Her co-star Ronit Roy too was to make an appearance in the movie.

6. She found the match for her step-son, Rohan.

7. After four years of their secret marriage, there were reports that Manoj left Farheen and moved with his first wife. But now as per media reports Farheen and Manoj live together with kids.
