Erisseri – Method 1


Erisseri is a traditional dish of Kerala, served as a side dish of rice. It’s also served with Onam Sadya in Malabar regions.
 

Ingredients for Erisseri:

 
1. Elephant yam finely chopped – 1 cup
    Raw banana cut into small pieces after removing skin – 1 cup
    Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
    Chilli powder – ½ tsp
    Pepper powder – ½ tsp
    Salt – As required
2. Coconut scrapped – ½ cup
    Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
3. Coconut scrapped – 1.5 cups
4. Coconut oil – ¼ cup
5. Black gram daal – 1 tsp
6. Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
7. Curry leaves – 2 stalks
 

How to prepare Erisseri?

 
1. Mix ingredients no: 1, and cook adding enough water.
2. Sauté these vegetables and add finely grinded ingredients no: 2.
3. Boil it well till water content is absorbed. Put the flame off.
4. Crush in a mixer 1.5 cups of scrapped coconut and keep it aside.
5. Heat oil in a pan and sauté urud daal. Add cumin seeds also and sauté it.
6. Add crushed coconut to it and fry well.
7. When it turns reddish colour add curry leaves to it.
8. Add cooked vegetables to it and mix the contents well. Your Erisseri is ready to serve.
