Elephant Yam – Dates Pickle


Ingredients for Yam-Dates Pickle:

  1. Yam – ½ kg
  2. Dates – 100 gm
  3. Vinegar – as needed
  4. Salt – as needed
  5. Green chillies finely chopped – 100 gm
  6. Ginger finely chopped – 50 gm
  7. Garlic finely chopped – 50 gm
  8. Pickle powder – as needed
  9. Oil – as required
  10. Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

How to prepare Yam-Dates Pickle?

  1. Clean yam using water and chop it to fine pieces. Soak it in water for a little time adding a little turmeric powder.
  2. Remove seeds of dates and immerse it in vinegar.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and sputter mustard seeds. Sauté yam till it becomes brown colour. Then add ginger, garlic and green chillies and sauté again.
  4. When it’s done, add sufficient pickle powder, stir well and put the flame off.
  5. Pour vinegar-dates mixture to mixer and make a fine paste.
  6. Add this paste to already prepared pickle mixture and stir it well. Add vinegar if needed.
  7. Add sufficient salt also. Your yam-dates pickle is ready to serve.
